Allocation and Appeals Information for September 2020

Owing to the current situation of school closures and social distancing, the admissions and appeals legislation and processes were reviewed by the government. We have been advised by the Oxford Diocesan Education Board, that appeals for school places will follow the usual processes and time scales, but the appeal panels will meet virtually to ensure social distancing is in place. The following information is for parents who have received their allocation letters on the 16th April 2020.

Allocation and Waiting Lists
The first round of allocation letters were sent to families on April 16th. By April 30th parents must respond to the offer letter. If parents have listed Frieth as their first preference but have not been offered a place in the first round of allocation they have the choice to
  1. Accept the school place offered and remain on the waiting list for Frieth
  2. Decline the school place offered and remain on the waiting list for Frieth
  3. Accept the place offered but remove their child from the waiting list
We would always advise accepting the place offered so that there is a guaranteed school place for September and remaining on the waiting list for Frieth if it is still the preferred parental choice. The Buckinghamshire Admissions Team will send information to families with information about where they are placed on the waiting list for the school of their choice on May 20th. They also have a timetable of allocation dates and waiting list updates on the website.

There is usually some movement on the waiting lists in the summer term, and once the admissions team have received all the responses from the first allocation round, they will review the school allocations. If there are families who have declined their place, they will automatically offer the space to the next family on the waiting list in the second round of allocation. The same pattern is repeated in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds of allocation.

Appeals

If you are not successful in being offered a place at Frieth C E C School, you have the right to appeal the decision.  Appeals are run by an independent panel at the Oxford Diocese and this year will be held 'virtually' for social distancing.  An appeal form should be completed and returned to the school office.  Appeals are usually held 30 school days from receipt of appeal form.

If your appeal is regarding the allocation of a place for your child to start school for the first time then the appeal process follows a timetable set out by the Diocese.
