How Christmas Came to Be

13th December 2018
The whole school performed the fantastic musical of 'How Christmas Came to Be'. The play told the story of how we came to celebrate Christmas in December, from the Roman festival of Saturnalia to Nordic Pagan traditions of Yule; from the Puritans banning Christmas to the Victorians introducing the Christmas tree; and finally to the modern Father Christmas and his reindeer.
Of course we didn't forget the most important story of Christmas: The birth of Jesus.  This was acted out beautifully by our KS1 and EYFS children.
Every class took responsibility for a section of the play and all the children had a role to make the performance so wonderful. The singing was superb and the atmosphere they created was magical. So many parents left praising the children and telling us it was the best Christmas performance to date!
Well done to all the teachers and staff who worked tirelessly with the children to create such a festive treat and to the parents for providing such great costumes.
The DVD recorded on the evening performance will be available to order soon.

The collection at the end of the performance raised a staggering £557 for St Charles School, our link school in Kenya. Overseen by the charity Amani, this will be used to buy much needed stationary for the pupils within the school.
