Collective Worship

At Frieth CEC School we embrace the uniqueness of everybody and are inclusive of all.

Our values of respect, responsibility, resilience, honesty, kindness and creativity guide all that we do and we seek to develop these characteristics in all our pupils, preparing them to be reflective and responsible members of society who let their light shine.

As a Church of England school, we believe that learning about the Christian faith and being involved in Christian worship can be a significant part in achieving this aim. We therefore give a high priority to collective worship in the school.
Our Collective Worship is:
Invitational
Inclusive
Inspiring

What is Collective Worship in our school?

Our Collective Worship is an expression of our school.

It reflects the backgrounds of  the children in our school, some of whom are regular church goers, others have little or no Christian framework outside school, and some are members of other religions.

For many Christians, worshipping together as a community is very important.

Jesus said:

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” Matthew 18:20

Collective Worship is the opportunity for:

Collective experiences

and
Individual experiences

It is an act of being with each other and for those who are Christian 'being with God'.

How does it allow us to express our vision?

"Let your Light Shine!“

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lamp stand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they see the good things you do.’
Matthew 5:14-16

Our worship is an expression of our vision. We explore our school’s vision and how that underpins our shared values and virtues.

Collective worship takes place in a timetabled assembly each day. It is led by our Worship leaders from our collective worship council, Rev Sue Lepp, Pastor Pash and the school’s R.E lead. Before each collective worship assembly, a member of the collective worship council leads a call to worship just before 10:00am.

Our worship leaders have responded to the views and ideas shared by their peers. They have developed a collective worship program that reflects our school vision and concepts which fascinate and inspire their peers.

Each Monday Year 6 lead a celebration assembly, named 'Let Your Light Shine'. The aim of the ‘Let Your Light Shine’ assembly is to celebrate the children’s achievements, thus highlighting where they have ‘let their light shine!’ as individuals, groups or classes, outside of the school/classroom or within it and to recognise children demonstrating our school values.

During the spring and summer terms we have ‘Class Assemblies’. These encourage reflection on a variety of themes such as current issues, a specific event or celebration, or the celebration of curriculum work. When possible, parents and governors are invited to attend these.

What our pupils have to say:

Is there anything we do in worship that helps us to ‘Let our light shine’?

“We light a candle to help us think about the good things we can do and are good at”.

"We listen".

"We are patient"

"We sing together".

“We talk about how we could let our light shine”

"We talk about how to be better”.

“We talk about how we can be a better person when we come out of assembly”.

“You tell us to keep it up”

“There is reflection time”.

“We talk about how to be kind”

“Year 5 got a chance to do it or not and lead the assembly”.

We asked our pupils: What do you like most about collective worship?

“The soothing music in the background”

" Our ‘Let your light shine’ singing"

"Ringing the bell".

“I like thinking about what I believe”.

“I like the time to reflect”.

“I like when we reflect because it’s calming”.

“It makes you a better person”.

“The quiet part”.

“When we have our quiet time together”.

“I like it how we are all together”.

“We get to go together and listen to a story”.

“I like listening to stories of God and Jesus”.

“I like listening to stories that educate us”.

“My favourite part is where YR6 read a passage from the bible”.

“I like the stories because they make me think”.

“I like collective worship when it is interactive, like when there is a video, an opportunity to act, a story that is read, or a game we can play”.

“When we light the candle and it resembles our light shining”.

“I like lighting the candle and reflecting on it”.

“The thing I like most about collective worship is the candle. I like that you can have time to reflect, by looking at it, even if you don’t have a religion”.

“When people get the special mentions”.

“I like that we get to celebrate the people that word hard”.

“I like that we can run an assembly by ourselves”.

“I like that they have started to let pupils get involved”.

Come and Praise Assembly

In our classrooms we provide the children with opportunities to reflect and pray. They are given the opportunity to share prayers, read bible stories, and have a quiet space for personal reflection.

At Frieth we give our pupils the opportunity to engage in Forest Church. It gives everyone the opportunity to connect with the natural world and for some facilitates a meeting with God through this connection. Our hope is that Forest Church will become a spiritual home for those who find spiritual moments when they are outdoors, in nature.
