Frieth Hilly 2017

15th October 2017

Part of our aim in school is to model and encourage our pupils to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. Last weekend our annual Frieth Hilly gave the school and me personally, the perfect opportunity to do just that. For the first time this year, I decided to take part in the 5K  and be able to show our pupils that it doesn’t matter what age you are, whether you are young or a more mature age, that being healthy and active is a fantastic lifestyle choice.  I have to say that I enjoyed every minute of it—yes even that hill at the end!  There are many reasons why the race itself would be enjoyable to any runner taking part, the activity itself, the beautiful scenery, the fantastic organization, the feeling of running with hundreds of other people and the sense of achievement at the end to name just a few. But for me, the most enjoyable part of it was the amazing support and encouragement from the pupils, parents and community on the day. From the choir and blessing before hand, to the signs by the road on the hill; from the year 6 pupils coming to help me on the final stretch and giving me words of encouragement to the ‘well done!’ from other runners along the way.  To all those people I would like to say a personal ‘Thank you!’ for making my first every 5K run so special!.

I would also like to say a massive thank you to Will Richards our new race director, the Hilly Committee and the PTA for again organizing such a fantastic event and putting so much hard work and effort into the planning. It is a huge undertaking and one that I know the pupils and staff at the school will benefit from enormously and appreciate so much! THANK YOU!

It's been a real pleasure being the Race Director for the Frieth Hilly this year. I have been superbly supported by the committee of Beth Constable, Charlotte Crowther, Justine Harbinson, Lucy Forder, Karen Warnes, Ruth Tebbot and Jessica Richards. We are all immensely proud of how the day went and we want to thank all of the parents, children and teachers for your support. The runners love our race and the feedback has been hugely positive. For now we will take a well-earned rest but I am personally excited about what we can achieve next year and I look forward to working with everyone again.
